I wanted to gift my husband a signed copy of Bobby Firmino‘s book for Christmas. The problem is that it’s next to impossible to get a signed copy in The States. Our bookstores don’t carry them, and the European bookstores that had signed copies weren’t willing to ship them to North America. West End Lane Books was SO helpful, willing to ship to The States, and communicated so well. My copy arrived in a timely manner and was in pristine condition when it got here. So glad I found this gem of a store online!
Really frustrating, there was a book I wanted to order that they didn’t have in, I wanted to support my local bookshop so asked if they could order it in (despite it being cheaper and quicker delivered etc online). I was told they could have it in two days time and was asked to give my phone number to send a notification of when it did etc.
I then called the evening I was told I’d be able to pick it up, to find out that it hadn’t arrived and wouldn’t/couldn’t because the publisher is out of stock.
I honestly wouldn’t have minded if someone had let me know even that morning… a bit of a killer to be told the book will arrive that afternoon and to only find out they can’t fulfil the sale after me contacting them that evening. All after taking payment too, for an order they couldn’t process.
Staff were really nice and the shop was good to browse, but I wouldn’t rely on them again for an order…
if i could give this 0 i would!! the only positive was the lad who was covering managers was nice who refunded me.
i ordered this signed copy of bobbys book for a present, paid 1st class royal mail. £5.95 baring in mind we are not in December yet i know there may be delays but… if it’s first class it shouldn’t be more than 8 days+.
your response was to offer me 15% discount on my next order, why would anyone want to order from a shop which a previous order didn’t arrive 🤔? The fact once i’d ordered it said for me to contact them for tracking had alarm bells ringing. Was then told sorry we don’t actually have any tracking we’re not sure what’s happened . avoid!!!
WOW! Fantastic service, I highly recommend West End Books. I ordered 3 signed copies which came well packed. Miriam was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Josh too was most attentive. Will definitely be taking a trip to the Bookshop 😀 I had tried to order from numerous other companies who gave the usual 'don't know' reply. Thank you so very much. Angie N.
I've never visited in person, but their online service was/is exemplary. Pre-ordered a signed copy of Adrian Edmondson's book online, and I was given the option of adding a personal dedication. It arrived very quickly and very well packaged with a couple of days. My husband will be delighted with his stocking filler. Thank you!
Excellent local bookshop. Friendly staff and a good selection, including some signed books which is a highlight. I would be keen to see more travel writing in the shop going forward.
Great Independent run family bookstore. They stock a wide range of books. I found everything I was looking for.
The cashier was very lovely and knew the backstory of authors of books I enquired about. Namely Toni Morrison and Andrea Levy.
They have a 20% off sale every last Saturday of each month.
Well worth a visit!
Two people behind the counter, no greeting on my way up to the till.
The young girl seemed nice enough, but neither of them responded to my "bye bye" when I left after my purchase.
The other woman (possibly the owner) clearly felt to be too "important", with no welcoming energy, busy as she was, in desperately trying to look posh to be even remotely courteous.
Never again.
